K: Usually I will pick inspiration/ elements from the youth portfolio, sometime the architectures, artworks and/or furniture designs are inspiring me a lot.
G: What is your favorite designer and why?
K: must say Reid Kawakubo and Nicolas Ghesquière, really love the works which create by Nicolas Ghesquière, his is friendly in the use of different kind of unusual materials and the play with texture, like the collection of fall 2008 which is a nice combination of leather, velour and printed latex and the iconic bags of Balenciaga are also fantastic
After the interview….
When I was a fashion student, in the same school of Kenax, I told not to do print or graphic design of fashion. This is because it is not the main stream of fashion and it is not valuable. However, after passing two to three years, the situation changed. It is good to see someone that has good graphic and styling sense like Kenax to create so many chic clothing. He proves that prints can make collections becomes more marketable and it adds value! Kenax also has good marketing sense to create some clothing that is sporty and easy to wear, it is good to see that he matched art with street style to create something that not very Hong Kong designs-like.
